OLDER QUERIES AND OTHER EMAIL
Charlie,
Happy Easter. I was just checking out
the Boydstun webpage and noticed that
Jesse Boydstun
was given a bounty land warrant in Davidson County, TN in 1783.
Does anyone have info on Jesse?
I am just thinking out loud, but am wondering
if Jesse could have been the
father of my Priscilla.
Here's my train of thought. . . Jesse served in the
Revolution from Montgomery County, VA, which
is where my Priscilla was born .
. . Jesse had a sister named Priscilla
(Was my Priscilla named after his
sister?) . . . My Priscilla married
Benjamin
Solomon Cecil who served in the
Revolution from Montgomery County, VA . .
. Priscilla and Ben were married ca.
1783 . . .Priscilla and Ben moved to Wayne
County, KY ca. 1799, however, they
had a child who was born in Tennessee prior
to 1799. Question: Could they
have stopped by Davidson Co., TN?
Linda Shay
Hello again Charlie,
I purchased the Weaver
book and got a surprise. She has the same picture
that QB Boydstun
states is James Boydstun Sr. (Revolutionary
Soldier), but
she states on page 109 that the picture is
James
Boydstun--son of Benjamin
Boydstun and Mary Gardner.
Who is correct? Another fly in the ----?
Sorry to be the bearer of seemingly bad news.

Iknow that Tom Sr. was supposed to be one of
the founders of the Indian
Territory Illuminating Oil Company in Oklahoma.
He was married, I
believe, to a Julia
McWilliams. It is my understanding that
both of
them may have been from Missouri. My
father was born in Oklahoma. He
died about 1961 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. at the
age of 55 or 56. He had two
sons, Tom III and Bobby.
I am researching my genealogy and would like
to have some information on
the family. Where did they come from,
where did their ancestors come
from, etc., etc.
If anyone has any information, I would appreciate hearing from them.

I've been without a computer for a while, but
have finally fixed things and
have a new address (boydstun@mindspring.com).
I have really been busy with great information
from several personal
contacts. Currently, I am waiting
for some promising information from
Mississippi Boydstuns.
Recently, I obtained information (marriage
licenses, probate records, land
records etc.) on my wife's family (Walker)
in Mississippi, and a complete
line from her grandmother back to Germany
in 1620. All names, dates,
siblings, were included in the printout.
This later information came from a correspondence
with a Sons Of American
Revolution member who use the name Costner
as his Revolutionary ancestor.
Incidently, there is one other Boydstun in
SAR who used James Sr. Boydstun
as his Rev. ancestor and four who used William
Boydston. SAR seems to been
an important source for information.
The information from Mississippi has
not arrived yet. Hopefully it will
have some info about my direct line to Robert
Boydston. Missouri may hold
the key for my research, so I am collecting
and reviewing the info I have
in order to contact the state resources.--Chuck

Charlie,
I don't have any portraits of the Newport
family. I wish I did. That is not
to say that there are no portraits of them.
Sometimes if you check with a
local historical society, they can lead you
to such things. I understand from
Gladys Domonoske's book that the
Boydstuns lived in Claiborne County for
awhile, then moved to the Chattanooga area,
and then to near Ripley,
Tennessee. I think John
Boydstun fought in the War of 1812 from Claiborne
County. There was a photo of some of
his descendants in Mrs. Domonoske's
book, Henry Sheridan
Boydstun, his wife and child.
I think Sarah
Newport probably died in what is now Claiborne
County,
Tennessee, and Rev.
Richard Newport supposedly died in Knox County,
Tennessee.
However, their burial places are not known.
I hope to have my book finished
one of these days. I am gathering information
on the earlier Boylstons
through the help of a friend in Virginia.
I think it will give a more
complete picture of the family. I plan
to include photos of churches they
were involved with and any Newport
photos that I have. I don't have much for
Benjamin Franklin Boydstun
except his marriage. Anything you can provide on
your line would be helpful.
If you run across any marriage records which
list Richard Newport
as the M.G.
or Minister, please e-mail me. Some
published marriage records don't include
the minister or the bondsman, and these can
be helpful. I only have a few
marriages that Richard
Newport performed, and I'm sure there were
lots, as
well as baptisms and funerals.
I have Asa Conner
Boydstun married to Jane
Blevins. I also have several
children listed for them. Do you have
their children? Conner was Sarah
Newport's name
before marriage, as you may know. I would like the names of
the children of B.
F. Boydstun and his wife. I don't have
them in my
database.

Hi, I just found the Boydstun Family home page.
I had no idea that there
was so much interest in the family, and where
they came from. My
maternal grandmother was Florida
Boydstun who married Paul Hayes in
Wieser, Idaho. I have not been able to find
out anything about her
except that she was Indian, or "Native American"
as they call it
nowadays. My sister says that there is a picture
that my mother had of
her in full regalia, but I have never seen
it, as I was separated from
my family for 35 years from shortly before
WW2 ended. Any information
that I can get on the Boydstuns
of Idaho, or wherever she came from
would certainly be appreciated. Thanks for
the home page.

I was in Hawaii last year and visited the USS
Arizona. I saw that there
were two sailors who died on Dec 7th who had
the name of Boydstun. Do
you know whether they are relatives
of ours and what family they came
from. I don't believe that they came
from my side of the family, at
least I had not heard of it but since their
names were spelled the same
they are probably relatives.

Hi Charlie,
I just got off the telephone with a man named
Doyle
Bertran Boydstun who lives at 320 North 5th,
West Helena, AR. His father was Gurvis
Boydstun and his grandfather was Thomas
Jefferson Boydstun who moved from Memphis
TN to AR. He may have owned a lumber yard in Memphis before he moved.
This family is especially interesting because no one else seems to have the names of the family members! Might be worth following up on.
Your new information is great! Keep up
the good work and maybe we will
straighten out all the mysteries in the Boydstun
families.

I am related to the Boylston/Boydstuns in two different ways.
1) My G-G-G-G Grandfather was Rev.
Richard Newport whose daughter, Elizabeth,
married Thomas Boydstun.
I am in the process of writing a book about Richard
Newport.
I just discovered Gladys Boydstun Domonoske's
book on the
Boydstuns this year
and it helped me to tie some families together. It also gave
me some great information
on the Newports.
2) My G-G-G Grandfather, Ezekiel
Newport--Elizabeth's brother, married
Rebecca Cecil, whose
mother was Priscilla Boyleston. Therefore,
I am directly
related to the Boylstons,
but have had trouble finding Priscilla's parents.
If you would like to add my e-mail address
to your webpage, please feel free
to do so. I have recently joined the
PRUITT
Discussion Group, and have found
the people to be very nice and helpful.
However, one person says that David,
Sr. and Mahala Boylston had 14 children--among
them a Priscilla. He says that
David, Jr. was married to Sarah Pruitt.
After visiting your site, I see that
there are many different theories about the
Thomas,
William, Mehitable,
Mahala, David, etc. Boylstons.
Do you think we will ever get it straight?

It (Boydstun Family History Site) looks like
a useful site for those interested in
Boydstuns. I wish it had been available a
couple years or more ago. We've
done quite a bit of research and have been
in contact with many descendants.
Seems like we obtained your line of descent
from June Reid
in TX, but I
downloaded your gedcom to see if it has anything
more. It's interesting to
see the variations on the earliest MD generations.
I've
concluded that
Gladys (Boydstun) Domonoske's work,
particularly the 3rd ed, which
integrated contributions from various sources,
is probably still the best.
To that end, I've obtained agreement from
Higginson Book Co. to reprint the
3rd ed, if they can find a decent copy
to reproduce. Also obtained the
copyright release from Gladys' son Arthur
for Higginson. He reported that a
descendant in TN is writing a new one, but
that appears to be a more limited
one. One of the most thorough researchers
of the Boydstuns was Cleburne
Pounds, now in
a nursing home in Seminole, OK. We hope to be visiting him
along with his daughter after the holiday
season. Cleburne is
descended
from the same branch of Boydstuns as my wife.
We are hoping to find some
photos of earlier Boydstuns.

Christian. William,
son of
David Boydston and his second wife, Sarah
Pruitt, was a Revolutionary

Col.

The Boydstons of my line moved from Cocke Co., TN to

to Platte Co., MO. I have
gathered Boydston information for about 17
years now, focusing most on
the William-Boydston-and-descendants
line, of course, and will be happy

I have been trying to locate a copy of "The

my Dad. His name is Robert
Glenn Boydstun,
and he has told me about this book all my life. There
is one copy of it here in the Fort Worth Library,
and he has told me the
book ended with his fathers or grandfathers
family. I have only read
parts of it, and know that it is accurate
from stories about the family
from my grandmother, now departed. There
is a street named Boydstun
here in Ft. Worth and a little town north
west. The two Boydstuns
killed at pearl harbor were my dads youngest
brother and cousin. Two
other boys also died in WW2 and my Dad is
a veteran. My grandmother
started the Gold Star Mothers Association
here in Ft. Worth to honor
those who didn't come home. Since we
are going home for Christmas with
my parents, I would be happy to ask him any
questions you might have.
Just let me know and I hope to find a copy
of the book for him, it would
mean allot.
