HISTORICAL FAMILY PICTURES
*JAMES BOYDSTUN (1814 - 1891) -- Son of
Benjamin Boydstun and Mary Gardner
I purchased the Weaver book and got a surprise. She has the same picture that QB Boydstun states is James Boydstun Sr. (Revolutionary Soldier), but she states on page 109 that the picture is James Boydstun--son of Benjamin Boydstun and Mary Gardner. Who is correct?
Chuck (Charles B.) Boydstun orobass@comcast.net
James Boydstun's daughter was Sarah Frances Boydstun, who lived with her grandparents Benjamin and Mary Boydstun and her Parents James and Nancy Boydstun in "the original homestead house of logs". Sarah later married John Gustine Courson and had a daughter they named Gustine Nancy Courson, the Author of the book "The Boydstun Family". Gustine Nancy Courson (Weaver) wrote this book along with information provided by her mother, Sarah.
From: "The Boydstun Family" by Gustine Courson Weaver" Pg. 81 & 109
I would expect the picture of James to be this James, (Son of Benjamin Boydstun and Mary Gardner), for two primary reasons. First, Sarah should know what her own father looks like, since she lived with him. Second, she is the one most likely to have an original PHOTOGRAPH which would have been given to her by her mother, Nancy, and then given to her daughter, Gustine. I believe Q. B. Boydstun, who used this same picture (notice the frame), was mistaken.

[JAMES BOYLSTONE, SR. (1738-1814) - Revolutionary War Soldier, Husband to Sarah Pruitt and later, Tabitha Smith (Growing Up With Oaklahoma by Q. B. Boydstun)]
I don't believe this is correct! Please see notes above. - Charles R. Boydstun, Jr. charlieboydstun@comcast.net
If it had been James Sr. it would have had to be a
portrait--cameras were not invented yet!
